Living Things

Spring time is a great time to study living things! Our new science unit will do just that as we study the life cycle of a seed and Bess beetles. This week we'll be adding to our understanding of what living things need and how to define living from nonliving things. We'll plant pumpkin seeds and hope they grow!

In our study of the Bible, students are learning more about the happenings right after Jesus rose from the dead. We'll learn how the new spread that Jesus was alive and how His disciples reacted. Students will study the April Bible verse and discuss our new life in Christ.

This week we'll continue our study of 3D shapes in math. Students will identify and describe 3D shapes. We'll make them, too using clay and toothpicks. After a test on Thursday, we'll move into the next module on position words.

In reading we'll practice both the voiced and unvoiced 'th' sound. Our new red words are come, some. We are counting syllables daily in words, using chin drops to tally the parts of each word. Students are continuing to study and practice the digraphs: ch, sh and th, using them in their spelling and writing. We'll be reading to identify the main topic and supporting details. Students will write words and sentences using good sentence structure. We're practicing a fun poem for our poetry reading with 8th grade next week.

On iPads, we'll support our learning by practicing rhyming words and counting syllables.

In art, we'll make 3D branches on a spring tree to decorate our classroom.

Music is always fun as we learn the basics through praise and worship.

We're hoping the sun comes out for our recess times this week. The warmer temperatures make us happy spring is here!
