April is here, Spring is here and we're ready for a fresh beginning after a good Spring Break. We're thankful for the joy and hope of Easter and seeing new life grow all around us. We'll be starting a new math module, practicing for a special poetry reading, and learning about lots of living things in our new science unit.
At Bible time this week, we'll study what happened just after Easter and how Jesus' disciples reacted to the amazing surprise of seeing Him alive. We'll discuss the meaning of our April Bible verse and begin to learn the ASL signs to go with it.
In reading and writing we'll learn about the very useful digraph 'th' and add it to our writing and spelling skill practice. Students will write about the Yakama tribe for our wall display. We will continue to analyze texts to identify the main theme and supporting details. Students will give their opinions of texts and organize them into narratives and expository books.
Our new math module is on 2D and 3D shapes. We will learn to analyze and identity shapes, using appropriate vocabulary to describe them.
Our art project will focus on the work of Henri Matisse and shapes. Students will see how math concepts and visual art often connect.
In social studies, we'll be review facts about Washington state and the Yakama Trial Nation.
It will be exciting to begin a new science unit on living things. This week we'll be asking questions to see what we already know and what we want to learn about the living things around us. Students will define and test their ideas on what makes and organism alive.
In music, we'll start preparing for our Mother's Day Picnic. Our class loves to move, sing and worship as we learn about musical concepts.
On iPads this week, we'll practice math skills.
Mrs. Arnold and I are looking forward to being back in the classroom and jumping into Spring with our favorite friends!
Mrs. Luoma
