Happy May!

It's May, it's Spring! This week we'll be learning more about living things, caring for our plants and celebrating Spring.

In Bible, we'll discuss the coming of the Holy Spirit and the Trinity. We will try to keep it simple and point out that God loves us so much He has always been present in our lives. Our new Bible verse is on praying for one another and working together to spread the Good News of the Gospel.

In reading we will continue to work on digraphs, especially the tricky 'wh and th'. Students will learn 'kn' and 'ck' are also letter pairs that make one sound. We will be writing about our Mothers and writing sentences using digraphs. Students will focus on good sentence structure, rereading their work and correcting mistakes on their own.

We will be diving into two-dimensional shapes in math. Students will compare 2D and 3D shapes, and define shapes based on sides and corners. Students will combine shapes to make new shapes in math and art. We will use position words and arrange shapes according to specific directions.

Our art project will focus on 2D shapes and using them to compose a setting. Students will add details to complete their work.

Mrs. Arnold is helping us perfect our songs for Mother's Day and we're looking ahead to songs for graduation.

Science observations will focus on noting the anatomy of our plants and Bess Beetles. Students will observe plant growth and label different parts of their plant. We will study the anatomy of beetles, observe them close up and draw models of our beetles. Students help with the daily care of our insects and beetles.

On iPads we will practice math skills this week during our tech time on Tuesday.

Recess is a happy time in the sunshine. Everyone has a skip in their step and is enjoying the warmer weather. We're looking forward to a fine week of learning and fun.

Mrs. Luoma
