Turn up the heat!

Last week, we were hoping for  warmer temperatures so we could go outside for recess. It was a good reminder that God controls the weather and the timing of all things. He let us experience the challenge of staying in all day. This week I know we'll be especially thankful when He turns the thermostat up a bit and we can get outside.

There's lots of special things happening at BLS this week! The Scholastic Book Fair will be open in the library. Students will bring home a wish list on Monday. Students can purchase books if you send the money in or you can stop by to shop. And you can always shop from home online. Every book purchase helps us get new books for the school.

Friday is our Grand-friends day! Students will check into their classroom in the morning, then spend time with their Grand-friend going to chapel and enjoying activities set up in the classroom. We'll finish with a performance from our award winning LEST dance team and hear the LEST awards.

We'll be turning the page of the calendar and welcoming March mid-week. February just flew by! This week in Bible we'll introduce our new verse and continue focused practice on our chapel play. Scripts for some of our actors will be going home so they can practice their lines. We really appreciate your help from home in preparing them for our play on March 15th.

In reading and writing, we'll finish the alphabet with the letter Qq, learning that it is always paired with its best friend 'u'. Students will write spell and write words containing 'q'. We will practice keeping our 'p's' and 'q's' straight! We will write sentences and read. Our new red words are: are and do. Students will play several games practicing their red words.

Students will dive deeper in addition and subtraction skills in math this week. We will listen to word stories and write equations to solve for a specific group. It takes really good listening skills to get it right and we're looking forward to the challenge.

We will wrap up our science unit on physics and forces. Students will review vocabulary and take a summative test.

In technology we'll explore a new site to practice our math skills.

We have a song to practice in music for the finish of our play. Mrs. Arnold is helping us practice with purpose.

We're looking forward to a good week, thankful for all God gives us and His perfect timing.

Mrs. Luoma
