Marching into Spring

Hello March...the month that can't decide if it's winter or spring. If you like variety, this is a great month as we're sure to have wind, cold, sunshine, and a little rain or snow. We'll be enjoying the weather and adjusting to the changes in kindergarten.

This week at Bible time our class will practice saying our March verse with some ASL signs to help us remember key words. We'll stick with short devotions in the mornings so we have time to put a good effort toward our chapel play practice. Our play is coming up on March 15th and we hope all our parents can attend.

In reading and writing, students will learn about long vowel sounds. We will learn about open and closed syllables, helping us to read and write words correctly. We'll play games that help students listen for and identify vowel sounds accurately. Students will use the story from their decodable this week to plan and write about sequence. At story time, we'll recall sequence.

Students will finish our math module on writing addition and subtraction equations from a word story. We'll take a test to show our skills and be ready to begin a new module next week.

In science, we'll finish our summative test on our unit on forces. Students will be able to write or dictate their answers.

We'll move back into social studies and take a look at maps. Students will make a map of the classroom and begin exploring the map of Washington state.

At tech time, we're having fun on our new iPads and playing math games. We'll be excited to have a trip to the library to check out books.

We'll wrap up the week with a half day, due to student let conferences for the older grades.

We're looking forward to a week of changing weather and fun!

Mrs. Luoma
