It feels like winter, but we see the hope of spring emerging around us if we look close enough. My tulips are coming up and a few trees are starting to bud. We know a big growth season is soon to begin. Likewise, we see so many great things emerging in our class and know a big season of growth is ahead; students are reading and writing with more and more confidence, we can solve problems on our own and our friendships are solid. It's an exciting time for kindergarten teachers as we know each trimester picks up in pace and content, and we're happy to see our students prepared for what is before us.
After a busy LEST tournament and President's Day, we're excited to be back at school with our favorite people for the four day week ahead.
In Bible we'll continue practicing our memory verse and get as much chapel play practice in as possible. On Thursday our Bethlehem Buddies will be in to share the story of the Good Samaritan.
In reading and writing we'll add the letters and sounds of x, and z this week. Students will write words and sentences using those letters. We'll read new books and decodables and play several red word games. At story time we are practicing understanding sequence and using sequence words in sentences.
We'll finish up our module on addition and subtraction to 10 this week and take a test. Next, we'll move into a new module on writing equations for addition and subtractions problems based on a word story. This tests our listening skills! Students will check their own work and make sure their picture matches their equation.
We'll be close to wrapping up our unit on physics in science. This week we'll prepare a cover for our science notebooks and review vocabulary.
Students will study primary and secondary colors in art, painting a line of cute birds on a branch.
In music we are practicing a song for our chapel play and learning more about rhythm and beat.
The technology lab at school is in transition. Classes will be switching from our old computers to our new iPads or Chromebooks and we can stay in the classroom.
Throughout this week and next week, I'll be assessing students 1:1 to prepare for second trimester report cards.
That's our lineup for this week; we're excited to get back into a normal schedule.
Mrs. Luoma
