It will feel like a short week in kindergarten, but for families with BL students in grades 5-8 it will be a very big week. Northwest Lutheran schools gather in Tacoma at Pacific Lutheran University to compete in the annual Lutheran Elementary Schools Tournament. Students compete in sports, the arts and many academic fields. If you don't have older students at BL, it means a few days off from school and something to look forward to in years to come. If you are going, it's an exciting time for your kids to show their skills and for all to support the BL family. If you're interested in seeing some of the performers, come to the LEST preview assembly on Tuesday at 2:00 in the gym!
In class this week, students will begin our chapel play practice during Bible time, learning how to speak clearly during their parts. We'll continue practicing the Bible verse on being salt in the world.
In reading and writing we'll add Vv to our practice and continue to practice reading and writing all our letters correctly. We'll write sentences and correct any problems on our own. At story time we'll recall sequence in a text.
Students will practice fluency in addition and subtraction in math on Monday and Tuesday. There will be plenty of challenges for early finishers.
We'll have time for a science lesson where students make a system that show the flow of force using some of the models we have build. We'll introduce how friction affects motion.
On Monday we'll have an early Valentine's Day party at the end of the day. Our class loves their parties and all their friends!
Looking forward to a happy week,
Mrs. Luoma
