This Thursday, we'll celebrate 100 days of school in kindergarten! Throughout the day, we'll play games, count to 100 and write about 100. We may even have a surprise super hero visit (don't tell) and finish the day with a 100 Day bear party, where we'll consume 100 snacks. It should be fun X 100!
Every class takes a turn at presenting a Bible lesson at chapel during the year. Our turn is coming up on March 15th! That means we will be beginning chapel play practice during our Bible learning time. This is an exciting experience for all. We will learn about a Bible story in depth and how to present it independently to the school. Everyone will play an important part and we'll learn how to work together to present a clear message. Mrs. Arnold and I are excited our class has the opportunity to be challenged and learn new things. We will also work on memorizing and understanding our February Bible verse about how we are to be like salt in the world.
In reading and writing we'll practice the letters Ww and Yy this week. These are hard letters for many students, so remember to review them at home! We'll be writing letters, words and sentences throughout the week. Students are learning to reread their writing and correct their work. At story time, we are learning how to ask a question and state an answer that is complete sentence.
Students are adding and subtracting to 10 in our new math module. We practice drawing sketches based on a word story, then write and solve an equation to match. On day 100, we will focus on counting to 100 in multiple ways.
This week in science we'll sort photos of pushes and pulls. Students will build a top and apply a force to set it in motion. We'll make drawings of our tops, showing the direction of forces at play.
In music we clap, dance and sing at different tempos and beats. We'll start learning a song that will go with our chapel play.
In technology, we'll explore the fun reading site of Epic! Students will get to choose books of interest to read or listen to as they learn.
We're looking forward to this week, passing the mark of 100 days and happy to move into the remaining 80.
We love your kids,
Mrs. Luoma
