Last week helped break up the long, cold month of January with extra fun. We hope you got to experience some of the excitement of National Lutheran School Week. This week looks to be a cold one, but we'll be busy learning and thankful to have a full week ahead to make more progress.
In Bible this week, we'll finish the story of Jesus as a boy and move into understanding Jesus as the man who began His ministry of teaching and healing. We will learn he called special friends to be His disciples and He often taught through stories. We'll start the story of the Good Samaritan and learn how we treat others reveals what's in our hearts. Our new Bible verse is from the book of Mark and about the qualities of salt.
In reading we'll focus on the vowel 'e' as we read and write. Students will read, spell and write words and sentences. We'll practice understanding end marks and good sentence structure. At story time, we'll be asking questions from the text and answering them in complete sentences. Our newest red words are: from, have and me.
Students will finish our module on comparing numbers and move into the next one on adding and subtracting numbers to 10. When we have extra time, we often practice reading and writing two digit numbers and counting.
In science, students will build swings and learn more about forces. We will introduce the vocabulary words: system and gravity. Students will use these words when describing their designs and how they work.
We'll slip in a little social studies as we 'pay' students for a service. Then they can become consumers and buy a few goods. We'll be implementing a little classroom economy to help us understand economics in the days to come.
In music, we love to dance, clap and sing to different tempo's with Mrs. Arnold.
This week in art we will change our perspectives and make a snowman from an aerial view. Watch for our masterpieces in the hallway display soon.
In tech lab, we'll practice reading using our knowledge on vowel sounds.
We're looking forward to a great week of learning with your precious kids, thanks for sharing them with us.
Mrs. Luoma
