Get ready for a week of fun, service and learning celebrating excellence in education during National Lutheran Schools Week. Lutheran schools across the nation will join together to demonstrate how students can make disciples for life. We hope you help your child join in the fun by dressing up everyday and join us for Indoor Olympics on Friday.
When students come in tomorrow, they'll see the desks have been moved into a new arrangement! We'll be sitting in groups and practice many small group discussions. Students will learn how to be a good leader in their group and give everyone a chance to contribute. Our new character word is 'trustworthy'. Students will earn group points by being trustworthy to follow directions as a united group.
At Bible time this week, we'll finish our practice on the monthly verse where we compare and contrast the purpose of the devil with the purpose of Jesus Christ. We'll learn more about what Jesus' early childhood was like and how He grew up in a family just like us. On Thursday, our Bethlehem Buddies will be in to teach a lesson on Jesus' cousin John and how he prepared people to receive Jesus.
In reading this week, our letter focus is on letter Ff and reviewing b and d. Students will read, write and spell using these letters. We will write sentences in our new writing journals. We'll read through a new decodable and play lots of red word games. At story time, we'll learn to ask and answer a question from the text. We'll begin a chart to sort narrative books and expository texts.
Students will be comparing groups in math by drawing lines, and counting. We will work toward a fluent understanding of greater, less and equals with larger numbers. During center practice, we'll practice reading and writing two digit numbers to 100.
In science, student groups will build a ramp or slide and learn how a force can put a ball in motion. Soon we'll be measuring multiple test runs using our ramp designs.
Mrs. Arnold is helping us to understand tempo in music as we move and sing to fun worship songs.
During the week, we'll have some Indoor Olympics relay practice to prepare for the big day on Friday.
This week will be packed with fun, learning and smiles!
Mrs. Luoma
