Wow! Last week we were hit hard with sickness in kindergarten and many of us were at home trying to get better. I'm praying the start of this week is a reboot of good health and a full class. Being well is truly a blessing from God.
The beautiful snow also changed our schedule last week, so in some areas we're circling back to catch up with what we missed.
In Bible we'll learn about the birth of John and move into the beginning of the Christmas story. Our Bethlehem Buddies will be in this week to help us understand what a census is and why Mary and Joseph traveled to Bethlehem for it.
We'll be focusing on the letter 'p' and the new red words 'want, with' in reading. Students will practice careful writing skills, write words and sentences.
In math, we'll finish up Module 7 and move into 8 where we'll represent numbers to 10 with written numerals. Students will practice number order and good handwriting skills. Whenever we have a minute, we practice math-a-minute addition and subtraction tests to work on fluency.
Students will see how Jasper Johns used numbers in his modern art. We'll recreate a ten frame of numbers in the Jasper Johns style.
There will be a big push to polish our songs for the Christmas program in music. Students will learn how to set up and sing together as a big choir.
In tech lab, we'll practice sounds and reading skills from an interactive site.
We'll slip is a little science and social studies. Students will prepare for a paper making project that demonstrates how waste paper can be recycled. We'll continue learning what a consumer and producer are and how people are both.
My hope is for everyone to be present and well this week; that would be a gift!
Mrs. Luoma
