We talk a lot about being a hero and a good leader in kindergarten. We discuss how Jesus was a leader who was willing to serve others before himself and make sacrifices for their good. This week we'll tie in Veteran's Day as we discuss how members of the U.S. military serve and sacrifice. On Wednesday all are welcome to join us for our Veteran's Day chapel. We hope you'll encourage your kids to honor the Veterans in your family. Keep the memory of their service alive to our younger generations.
I'm stepping out of the class as much as possible this week to finish one on one student assessments to prepare for report cards. It's been delightful to work with each student and see the huge progress they've made.
In Bible we'll study and practice our November verse on thankfulness to the Lord. Students will learn about the Hebrew's trek through the dessert to the promised land as we finished the story of Moses.
Students will focus on the letter 'Cc' and review 'Aa' in letter formation. We are adding new letter sounds to our daily work each week and then use them in our reading and dictation. Our new red word is 'to' and we'll review 'has'. Students will be playing new games to review red words in class. We are working on a writing piece where we express an opinion for our wall. At story time we will review concepts of print and ask for opinions.
In math we are writing and solving addition and subtraction equations based on word stories. Students draw a picture and then write a number sentence. It's a multi step process that requires good focus and understanding....so lots of practice!
In science, we'll begin wrapping up our unit on weather. Students will finish a STEM challenge and then take a quiz. In social studies, we'll finish up our unit on community helpers and jobs.
Students will finish the art piece they started last Friday and we will hang up our fall birch tree forest!
In music we'll focus on learning and practicing our songs for the Christmas program.
Students will practice letter games in tech lab this week. Everyone is getting better at using a mouse.
It will be a shorter week, but a good one. There's lots to be thankful for: Veterans, Fall, families and God's love and daily provision.
We hope you have a thankful heart today,
Mrs. Luoma
