Yes, everyone is excited for Halloween on Monday! I too, love kids in costumes and candy. We hope you have a great time enjoying the evening as a family. At school, we'll have our first classroom party and enjoy some special games, a craft and a snack to celebrate the Fall season. In class we will teach about Monday also being Reformation Day. This is a day celebrating the reforms Martin Luther brought to the church. He was a godly man who read the Bible and noticed God's truth was being added to or ignored at church. He bravely sought to right this wrong and reform the church. We can all be reformers. First we need to study God's word and then be willing to tell other's the truth.
After learning about Martin Luther and Reformation Day, we will practice our new Bible verse for November. Next, we will learn more about the story of Moses and how he led God's people out of Egypt. We are learning that a good leader depends on God, makes tough choices and needs to be a positive example to others.
In reading we will review letters a, o, m, l, r and n. Our new concept is letter 'h' and new red word is 'has'. We will begin sending home one page decodable passages and a weekly reading log. Students are writing real and nonsense words phonetically using the sounds we cover in class. Mrs. Arnold and I are delighted in the rapid progress we're seeing in our class as we integrate many of the new strategies we have learned from taking recent trainings.
We will write about our opinions on our favorite color for our wall display.
In math, we are practicing addition and subtraction equations. Students are learning to listen, think and write a math sentence based on a word problem. This is challenging for many, as it requires a multi-step process, but practice will get us there!
Students will review severe weather forms in science and begin a STEM project on how to block the sun. We will learn more about community jobs in social studies.
In music, we will focus on learning our songs for the k-8 Christmas program.
Students will practice math skills in tech lab this week.
We'll celebrating the colors of Fall in art with a beautiful painting of birch trees.
It's sure to be a cool and busy week in kindergarten. We love learning with your kids!
Mrs. Luoma
