We Missed You!

Every time Mrs. Arnold and I are away from the classroom for very long, we start missing all our little friends in kindergarten. We really enjoy each day in our special learning community at BLS. It will be a great week being back together again after a five day break. Mrs. Arnold and I have attended some kind of class everyday and are returning full of new strategies and ideas. You might notice some of our daily work will change a bit. Don't worry, we are on a great path and will be preparing our class for what is ahead in first grade.

What will we be doing?

In Bible our class will begin learning about leadership through the story of Moses. Our Bethlehem Buddies will tell a key part to the story on Thursday and pray for us. This will be the last week to study for and say our October Bible verse.

In reading we will practice letters, sounds and red words. Students will read from decodable readers. We'll be writing words using the sounds we know and focusing on the vowel 'o'. Our class will learn what an opinion is and begin writing a short opinion piece about their favorite color. At story time, we'll give and hear opinions and see the role vowel 'o' plays in many words.

Our art project this week will support our writing as we create a monochromatic landscape using our favorite color.

We finished our module on classifying in math last week and will move on to learning about addition and subtraction in numbers to five. This will be an exciting piece to our progress as we take on reading and solving math equations.

Students will learn about different types of severe weather in science. On Thursday, we'll do an experiment where we demonstrate a flood. We will add to our graph on daily temperatures in the sun and shade. I'm hoping for a windy day so we can test our wind socks and take them home.

In social studies, we will continue learning about jobs in our community.

Students will practice math games in tech lab and we'll be singing, composing and keeping the beat in music.

I am really looking forward to a full school week. Learning is so much fun and we love to learn along side your kids.

Blessings,

Mrs. Luoma
