Problem Solvers

We encourage students to be problem solvers in Kindergarten.  That may be as simple as learning to manage their own materials and clothing to solving social problems using kind and honest communication.  We also learn to be engineers who solve problems through design.  This week in science students will design and build structures to block the sun and provide shade.  Students will collaborate, design, test and redesign to come up with the best structure.

In reading this week students will focus on understanding sentence structure and apply their knowledge to write about their opinion.  We will forge ahead in learning sight words, we, he, me.  Students will study a text on the weather, learn new vocabulary and write to respond to questions.

We are working on numbers 11-20 in math.  This week we will compare numbers and order numbers.  The emphasis is in understanding place value by decomposing a two digit number into tens and ones.

Christmas program music is coming right along.  The songs are fun and have been easy for the kids to learn.

In art this week we will paint like Van Gogh, making beautiful sunflowers.

The class is finishing the Bible story of Ruth.  It's helped us to reflect on God's provision and how to be supportive to those we love.

It's a shorter week, because of Veteran's Day.  We hope you had an opportunity to thank someone who is or has served in our military.

With a thankful heart for you,

Mrs. Luoma
