Wrapping Up Our First Trimester

We will be wrapping up our first trimester in Kindergarten this week.  As students finish several units, teachers are busy with grades and report cards.  We will take time to reflect in class on how far we've come and all that we've learned in a few short months.  That is a satisfying part of the learning process...noting progress.  Teachers are looking forward to sharing that progress with each family at parent-teacher conferences soon.

In reading this week we will study the sight words: be, she, see.  Students will get some extra practice identifying rhyming words and writing them carefully.  As we study a new text 'The Snowy Day', students will begin to note story details and sequence.

We will practice on counting carefully using ten frames, comparing number and ordering numbers to 20 in preparation for our chapter test on Thursday.  Our next chapter is on measurement.  We'll get a start on the concept by measuring books and feet with blocks in class.

Students will prepare for their written test on our science unit Weather and Sky.  You'll see our first science note book come home.  I hope your child reads through it and shares all they've learned.  Next we will learn about the water cycle and see how weather is part of the cycle.

We will continue to work hard on the songs for the Christmas program along with analyzing musical pieces in our listening journals.

It will be a good week of finishing up and preparing to move on.  Mrs. DeGraaf and I are looking forward to meeting with each family to celebrate and share how each student is doing in class.

Blessings on your week, may your hearts be full of thanks,

Mrs. Luoma
