Making Progress!

It was a long weekend, but yes, we're making progress on learning to manage our materials and remember routines.  We are patient, we know it takes lots of time and practice!

What are doing this week?  In reading we will cover understanding both the characters and setting in a text,  then move on to the physical parts of a book.  We will study the letters Ll and Tt and take our first phonics and writing quiz on Friday where students will show what they know about how to properly write these letters and identify them when they are the beginning sound in a words.  Help your child prepare for this quiz and future quizzes by practicing letters and sounds as we review them.

In math we will continue to sort by single and multiple attributes, then move on to careful one to one counting.  Our first  chapter is pretty easy for most kids, the challenge is in following directions so it's great practice for us in that way.

Our class will begin learning about our building this week, we will tour most of the rooms and discuss what each  room's purpose and who uses it.  Students will begin a scavenger hunt to identify people who work in our building and their jobs.  Today we started adding details to the map of our school and everyone was very excited we were making our own map.

In art we will study the works of Winslow Homer and use watercolors for the first time.

Stay cool on these warm days and joyful!

Mrs. Luoma
