It's Monday!

Sometimes we're a little slow and tired on Mondays, but the class does a great job of getting with the swing of things quickly.

We finished the story of Zechariah and Elizabeth this morning and will move on to the story of Mary and Joseph and Jesus' birth.  It's been interesting to see the role angels have played in both stories.  This has brought up a bunch of questions about angels.  Pastor Andy is coming in this week to help address the class questions.

In math we practiced using picture graphs.  This week we will finish our chapter on graphing and begin putting our skills to good use by graphing our progress on sight words.

We are continuing to focus on middle and ending sounds in words coupled with identifying rhymes.  This is time well spent as we move quickly into reading and writing.  Students practiced writing and reading our four new sight words for the week this afternoon.  New readers are a great place to apply sight words knowledge and sounding out words.

Our story was a narrative on Jack Frost, applicable for today as everyone noticed our frosty weather this morning.  We related frost to our weather, water and water cycle knowledge.  After the story the class recalled important story events from the text.  This prepares us to begin writing our own stories.

In learning centers we played a sound game, worked on Christmas wreaths, built and practiced sound skills on OSMO games.

Now we're rollin'...
