This week holds lots of fun and meaningful experiences for our class. On Thursday, we'll bring stuffed animals to school and flash lights to have a special 'Snooze Fest'. Students will learn all about nocturnal and diurnal animals and then spend the day learning in the light and in the dark. This is a great connection with our living things unit in science.
Students K-7 will have a 'Move-Up' experience with the teacher of their next grade on Wednesday afternoon. This is a fun time to get a hint about what next year will look like and get to know their teacher.
You won't want to miss bringing your kids to Beyond Biographies on Thursday evening. Grades 3-5 dress up as famous people from history and present reports on their lives. It's like a wax museum that comes to life!
On Friday, May 26th Pastor Josh will give a special Memorial Day presentation to all our students. At 2:00 parents are welcome to join the older grades out front to hear him give honor to those who have given their lives for our country.
This week in Bible we will continue to learn the meaning of the words in the Lord's Prayer. On Thursday, we'll hear the story of Paul's conversion from our Bethlehem Buddies.
In reading we'll learn the Foss Rule of doubling the consonant at the end of words with one syllable, one short vowel and ending in l, s, z or f. Students will apply this to their writing and spelling. We will read for comprehension and meaning. Students will write an expository piece about pond environments, using a topic sentence and supporting facts from a scientific article. We'll also learn and write about the animals we bring to class for Snooze Fest.
We'll finish up our math module on numbers to 20 and take a test. The next module focuses on writing numbers from large groups, being careful to note tens and ones. In technology this week, students will support and challenge their learning on the iPads with a place value game.
In science we'll discuss different environments and sketch ways living things can change their environments. Students will observe our control plants making observations on plant needs.
We will practice for our graduation with the fun songs Mrs. Arnold has prepared.
Van Gogh is our focus in art this week. Students will paint a sunflower still life in the Van Gogh style. Watch for them in our hallway gallery!
It's going to be a busy and exciting week, we can't wait!
Mrs. Luoma
