We're excited to have a full week before us. Our two days last week were full of new discoveries; we're using new standard pencils, erasing and we are caring for our class pets. This week we'll use the democratic process and vote on names for our little mice.
In Bible we will learn who the Magi were and how they found Jesus. We'll discuss the meaning of their gifts. Students will begin daily practice on January's Bible verse using ASL hand motions for key words.
In reading we'll add the vowel 'u' to our practice work. Students will work on writing, reading and spelling using all the letters we've reviewed so far. We will introduce the new red words: said, you. Students will write to show comprehension from an anchor text. We'll introduce a Venn diagram and compare characters and cultures from the text.
Students will begin module 9 in math where we will practice counting and sequencing to 100. Now is a great time to practice counting and writing numbers to 100 at home!
Our new science unit is on forces and motion. Students will be working with a partner to experiment and learn facts about physics. This week students learn how to sort and organize their materials and begin building with them to become familiar with how they work.
In social studies, we will focus on understanding different types of goods and services that consumers purchase.
We're excited to get back to learning the basics in music with Mrs. Arnold. She will teach us more about notes, composing and singing. We will learn a new end of the day song to pray before we leave to go home.
It will great to get back in the library and check out new books on Tuesday. Tech lab will be postponed for a special assembly from Mrs. Youngstrom on staying heart healthy.
This week in art we'll explore the work of Pablo Picasso and cubism. Students will make a beautiful self portrait using the Picasso technique.
We're close to earning a Bear Party for working together well as a class. Students can expect a special treat and a short movie to end their day....maybe Monday?
It may be gray and rainy outside, but in our classroom it's bright and cheery!
Mrs. Luoma
