Get Ready for Fall Fest!

This will be an exciting week of new experiences and fall activities!

We welcome our new principal, Mr. Eric Haan on board Monday. Many of the staff already know him well and have confidence this will be a smooth and positive transition for our school.

On Thursday, grades K-3 will have a special fall event school. We're bringing a pumpkin patch to BL and will enjoy a morning of fun pumpkin activities. There's still time to volunteer! Follow the QR code on the flyer sent home last week to see how. Thank you for getting your $3.00 per student turned in to cover costs.

This Saturday is Fall Fest at Howard Amon Park in Richland. There's still time to sign up for the races and get a cool shirt. Even if you don't want to race, please come and have fun with the families of BLS. There will be food and games. It's a great morning of fall fun for our school. Invite your friends and neighbors, too! Fall Fest is open to the public to enjoy.

This week in kindergarten we'll be learning more about forgiveness through the story of Joseph and his brothers. Students will practice their October Bible verse in preparation for the quiz on Friday.

We'll cover the important vowel letter Ii and have a phonics and writing quiz over letters Rr, Nn and Ii. Students will practice decoding words and reading in a new reader. We will write about Mr. Haan. At story time, students will recall the sequence of events in a story and review concepts of print. We'll have time to play lots of letter games to practice our skills.

In math, we'll finish module 3 on comparing numbers 0-5 and move into module 4 on classifying, sorting and counting objects.

Students will learn about different kinds of jobs people have in our building and in the community in our next social studies unit. It's a great time to talk about your job with your child.

We are recording daily temperatures in shade and in the sun for science. Students report the weather daily, describing temperature, wind speed and humidity. We will review weather tools and move into the study of severe weather. Students will discuss why knowing the weather for the day is important.

In art, we'll make fall pictures using oil pastels and paint to print pumpkins. Students are learning many techniques to use in visual art.

We love music with Mrs. Arnold! She has us learning notes, and dynamics. Students sing, keep the beat and compose.

The weather promises to be beautiful once more, it will be a blessing to be outside doing fall activities together.

Smiles,

Mrs. Luoma
