Future LEST Dreams

On our short little half day today, most of our morning was spent honoring all our LEST participants and teams.  Due to snowy, dangerous roads this year our school had to cancel.  This assembly was a way of showcasing the talents and hard work of our 5th-8th graders.  Our class got to learn more about the sports, arts and knowledge competitions.  Afterwards we encouraged our students to dream big and start thinking of their interests and talents.  We saw many excited eyes as they thought about being part of LEST in the future.

This week in Kindergarten we will learn more about the ministry of Jesus when He walked the earth with His disciples.  We will study one of the stories from the Bible that illustrates Jesus' healing miracles.

In math we will finish us our chapter into the introduction on time and begin a new chapter on geometric shapes.  In this chapter students will learn to identify and compare 2D and 3D shapes.  Everyone always likes this chapter!

We will be writing opinions, giving clear reasons to support our opinions.  Students will compare and contrast two texts, learning to use a Venn diagram.  We will learn about the different ways the letter 'y' acts as a vowel in words.  Students will begin to practice moving words around to build great sentences, then writing them with great handwriting.

In science we will continue to learn about our ladybugs.  We will focus on understanding symmetry in nature and what a ladybug needs to live in the wild.  Students will be taking home ladybugs to release near their home soon.

On Friday grades K-2 will have a Read-In day.  This is a day where we focus on literacy.  We will study the book, Horton Hears a Who by Dr. Seuss.  All our subjects will relate to this book in some way.  It's a great way for students to find multiple ways to appreciate good literature.

I hope you have a good book to read and spend time learning each day!
