Compare and Contrast

In reading we will begin a unit on learning to compare and contrast.  Students will compare and contrast different characters, and books.  We will extend our application of comparing and contrasting to shapes and life cycles.  For our phonics work, we will focus on digraphs for a couple weeks.  This week students will study the 'ch' and 'sh' sounds as they read words and sentences.

We will finish a story from the New Testament on Jesus healing a man, then we will learn about how Jesus loved Zacchaeus and took time to love marginalized people.

It's fun to study geometrical figures in math.  We are learning to define a shape with words, counting sides and corners.  Students will compare and contrast 2D and 3D figures.  We will spend time making larger shapes from smaller ones and building shapes on geo-boards and using ball and sticks.

We are wrapping up our unit on Ladybugs with a review and our first written science test.  Students will make their own posters of the Ladybug life cycle to take home.

It will be a good week of learning before a welcome spring break!

Blessings,

Mrs. Luoma
