Sing Big

This week we have the annual highlight of performing in the Christmas program.  Our kids know the songs really well and we will be encouraging them to 'sing big' as they perform in the gym on Thursday.  It's a growing up step to show confidence in front of a crowd and we know our class will step up to the challenge.  We have been discussing how a beautiful song is a true gift.  We pray you receive the gift and your heart is turned toward Jesus.

We'll start the week off right with a focus on the story of Jesus' birth, relying on the Bible to get our facts.  Our Bethlehem Buddies will be lunching with us on Monday.  Students made their buddies special ornaments and they can't wait to be givers.

In between music rehearsals we will be learning and practicing reading and writing skills.  This week we will identify end sounds in three letter words, then quiz on segmenting words into beginning, middle and ending sounds.  We will write about angels and the part they played in the Christmas story.

In math we will continue applying our knowledge of comparing measurements.  Students will weigh compare classroom objects.  On Tuesday, we will weigh our garbage from lunch and have prizes for the students with the least garbage.

In science and social studies we will learn how to keep our earth a cleaner place and apply it to our school.  Students will pick up trash from the school property, making our school a nicer place to be.  We will move into the second step of making new paper from the paper in our recycling bin.  A paper slurry will be poured on screens and then we'll let the process of evaporation work over the Christmas break.  When we return in January, students will have new, usable paper made to take home. The class will learn creating trash comes with being a consumer.  We will define new vocabulary words and sort consumers from producers.

At learning center time we will practice reading skills and have fun making Christmas decorations to take home.

Yes, it will be busy, busy, but it will go by fast and be a lot of fun!

Blessings on your week, we are thankful for you,

Mrs. Luoma
