The Water Cycle

This week in kindergarten, we'll connect God's creation of all the water on the Earth to the water cycle. It's amazing to ponder God's original creation continues to cycle around the Earth, conserving the same amount as on the day of creation.

We'll finish up the Creation story this week by adding the animals of the air and land, and finally people. At each point, we remember God's creation is good and meant to be honored.

In math we're working on counting to and writing the numbers 0-5 correctly. Easy to count, but challenging to write! We'll do lots of extra practice at center games to help us write these numbers well.

Students will take a phonics and writing quiz over last week's letters: Tt, Pp, and Jj. This assesses how everyone is doing remembering letter sounds and developing good writing skills. We will practice the letter Ss. Later in the week, we'll work on our first decodable reader, featuring all the letters we've practiced. We'll all be reading before you know it! Students will practice writing their first name keeping their letters the right size and shape. At story time we'll cover what the characters are and the setting in a story. Then we'll focus on rhyming words.

Our first social studies magazine will come home this week. Read through it with your child. We have been learning about why we need rules and how good citizens follow rules.

In science we will learn what a cycle is and then examine the water cycle. Students will do an experiment with ice that demonstrates the three forms of water and how evaporation works. Understanding the water cycle sets us up for a deeper understanding of weather forms.

Students will use their scissor skills to make a composition entitled 'Cities at Night' in art. We're learning paper is a great medium for expression in the visual arts.

At music time, Mrs. Arnold will have the class clapping and stomping to the beat as they learn to recognize a rest note and quarter notes.

During tech time this week, students will practice letter sounds on a new app.

We're looking forward to learning and having fun with your kids,

Mrs. Luoma
