Smile!

There are lots of reasons to smile at BLS this week: we are getting healthier, Fall Fest preparation has begun, we have an Open House and Ice Cream Social on Wednesday and school pictures on Thursday. Your kindergarten teachers are smiling each day as we see our class working with better focus, and having fun while learning. There is a lot to be thankful for!

This week in Bible, we'll learn more about Adam and Eve, their life in the garden and the choices they made. We'll discuss free will, sin and forgiveness. On Thursday our Bethlehem Buddies will come in to share part of the Bible story and pray for each student. Bethlehem Buddies are members of Bethlehem Lutheran Church who have a ministry with our class.  They come in once a month, share a Bible story with a small group of students and pray for them. This is just one way BLC supports BLS. It's great to know people in the church care and want to help our students to grow in faith.

We will be starting our first reading center time this week, where students will work on letters, sounds and reading from their first decodable reader. Letter focus is on letter Cc and Hh. We will begin learning our first sight words or high frequency words. Students will call them 'red words'. We will cover the word 'the' and 'and', practicing rapid recall and good handwriting. On Wednesday, we'll use a red word in a sentence. At story time, we'll begin a focus on rhyming words and what the roll of an author or illustrator is in making a book.

In math, we'll finish up our module on writing numbers 0-5 correctly. Careful practice has helped us come a long way in a short time. We'll take a test and then move into module 3 where we learn to match and compare groups to 5.

Students will review the forms of water and the water cycle in science. We will begin observing clouds and learn several different types. Next, we will study different kinds of weather and how to measure them.

In art we'll take a look at the artist Kadinsky. Students will make concentric circles in the Kadinsky style, forming an collaborative class art piece.

Students are learning about dynamics, beat and notes in music as they perform with fun songs.

In tech lab, students will work on the big computers, learning the parts of a computer and how to use a mouse. We'll play letter games and develop our coordination at the same time.

The weather is picture perfect right now, every recess feels great. We're looking forward to a fine week.

We love teaching your kids,

Mrs. Luoma
