We can be meteorologists

We're enjoying a beautiful fall at school. In science we are learning to become junior meteorologists. Students are observing wind speed, checking for precipitation and recording temperatures daily. We will graph temperatures in the sun and shade and learn to make predictions about tomorrow's weather.

In Bible we will finish up the story of the how sin entered the world and make connections on how we need a savior. Our next story is on Joseph and forgiveness. We will practice our October Bible verse daily.

Students will take a phonic and writing quiz over letter/sounds Ss, Cc, and Hh on Monday. We'll practice the new letters: Rr and Nn later in the week. We have four new red words: on, am, an, a to write and remember. Students will read through a new reader and write using the letters and red words we know. At story time we'll be reviewing the role of author and illustrator. We'll start recalling story sequence and apply Beginning, Middle and End to three letter words.

In math, we'll continue to compare groups in multiple ways and use the words greater, less and equal.

Students will learn more about weather tools and how to measure the weather in science. We will demonstrate how rain falls through a cloud and make a wind sock.

This week in tech lab, students will practice using a mouse to drag and drop in an alphabet puzzle game.

In art we'll explore the technique of pointillism and make big, fall spiders for display.

We are beginning to learn to use our voices as instruments in music and sing following notes.

It will be a full and fun week of learning!

Thank you for helping your child prepare for school each day,

Mrs. Luoma
