This week at chapel, students will speak expressing gratitude for all the groups of volunteers that help make BLS a better place. Our class is blessed with many parent volunteers who help at lunch, art, tech lab and with reading. Even more help with fund raisers, school events and holiday parties. We also have a great group of volunteers from Bethlehem Lutheran Church that come in once a month to tell Bible stories to small groups and pray for each child in our class. If you volunteer, I hope you can make it to this week's chapel on Wednesday so we can thank you personally!
In Bible time this week, we'll practice our Bible verse and discuss what it means. Students are working hard to perfect their chapel play that we'll perform on the May 18th. This week we will move into the sanctuary to practice a few times to understand how the play will look on stage.
Students will study 'l' blends this week in phonics. We'll read and write using blends. Our new sight words are: part, by, her. The new reader is 'Gus and the Bug'. Students will write to share information from an expository text. Next we'll be showing comprehension and noting event order in from a book on visiting different places in a community.
We'll finish up our module on understanding place value in math and go on to using that foundation to write two digit numbers accurately.
In tech lab we'll play a game to support our growing place value skills.
During music class we'll listen to a famous piece and respond with a picture and opinion.
As we study living things in science this week we'll continue to make predictions and observations as we test specific the preferences of our Bess Beetles. So far we are learning that not all Bess Beetle think alike! We'll move forward into studying different environments and discuss how living things can change their environments.
We'll do a fun project in art based on the glass work of Dale Chihuly. Students will see how materials can change under high temperatures.
It's sure to be a productive week of learning and fun,
Mrs. Luoma
