As we teach each week, it's a joy to see a kindergarten class that looks a lot like first grade. We know how to manage our own materials and help others. We know how to focus and finish well. We are so proud of all our happy readers and writers. It's been a year of big changes and we are so thankful for all the growth we've seen.
On Wednesday, our students will spend a little bit of time with Miss Closner in first grade. There, they'll learn more about what's coming next year. On Thursday, we'll host both pre-kindergarten classes to share information about what they can expect in kindergarten.
This week in kindergarten we will continue learning about the Lord's Prayer and what the words really mean. We'll practice our Bible verse, take prayer requests and praise God for answered prayers.
In reading we'll finish up our unit on consonant blends and practice identifying blends in words. We'll study a text on life in a city and write about the urban community. Students will write about their opinion of the best part of our chapel play and give reasons to support their opinions. We won't add any new sight words, but will spend time learning to read review words. No more reading logs either, but we'll send home a weekly reader each week until school ends for the summer.
We will explore measurement in math this week. Students will learn all about measuring lengths and heights. We'll take a quiz text on lengths and begin our last module on weight.
In tech lab, we'll work on computer coding skills.
Our focus in music will be on preparing for our graduation songs.
In science, we'll continue to explore environments and answer the question, 'Do living things change their environments?' We will go on a nature walk to find evidence and record our observations.
This week in art, we'll look at famous sculptures and try our hand at sculpting in clay.
It's looking like a sunny week of fun and learning!
Mrs. Luoma
