Bye Bye to our Bess Beetles

In several areas, we are finishing up units and preparing for the end of the school year. For some change is unsettling, but we try to encourage everyone to focus on looking forward to the new things to come.

In science we will do our last experiments with the Bess Beetles.  Students will discuss how living things can change their environments, and those changes can be negative or positive. We will study how a beaver can change an environment. Students will get to handle the Bess Beetles if they choose to before our science kits get packed up.

Our Bethlehem Buddies will be here on Tuesday morning to tell the story of Saul's conversion from the book of Acts. Students will discuss how Saul changed and went on to share the truth with others. The rest of the week, we'll continue to learn what each part of The Lord's Prayer means.

In reading, we'll send home a weekly reader for practice at home. Students will finish up consonant blends and move into studying the word endings 'ing' and 'ed' in phonics. We will hear more about life in a big city and write to show understanding. Students will write sentences describing a city.

We will finish up our last Module in math on measurements and take a quick test. Students will move on to learn about money and how to use coins to 'pay' for items in our 'store'. We will practice addition and subtraction skills as we purchase items. This week we'll use pennies and nickels.

Everyday, we'll practice our songs for kindergarten graduation. In our music class, we'll listen to a famous piece of music, 'Jupiter' and draw our interpretation of the composition.

In art, we'll be designing hot air balloons using paper, markers and crayons with the theme, 'Oh the places we'll go'.

I'll be pulling students for their final one on one assessments throughout the week in order to get ready for our final report cards.

We are keeping busy and learning new things everyday. I always look forward to coming to school each morning to be with your kids.
