Understanding Living Things

We hope you had a safe and happy Spring Break as a family! We're excited to get back to learning with our favorite little people.

This week we begin our spring science kit on Living Things.  Students will learn what characteristics make something alive, and what living things need to survive.  We'll be planting seeds and learning about a plant life cycle.  Students will learn seed anatomy and begin recording their observations of a growing plant..

In Bible, we'll finish up the story of Zacchaeus and all the things Jesus did in His ministry on earth.  Then we'll begin practicing for our chapel play in May.  At story time, we'll cover the Easter story.

Our new sight words are: should, come, some. The new reader is, 'Run Tim'.  In phonics, we will focus on the digraph 'ch'.  Students will listen to a new expository, anchor text about plants.  We will write to show comprehension and spelling skills.  We'll also be writing about Easter and in our own books.

We'll begin a new module in math on 3-dimensional shapes.  This is a switch to geometry and will include lots of new vocabulary.

In music, we'll begin a new lesson and practice echo singing.

Students will practice reading with a friend in tech lab, as we read parts in a play.

Friday, we'll prepare our heart for Easter with a special Good Friday chapel.  It will be a time of reflection before the joy of Easter Sunday.

I'm happy to be learning and growing with your kids,

Mrs. Luoma
