Let's Read!

It's wonderful to see how excited our class gets about reading!  This week, we'll celebrate reading with a Read-In on Friday where we explore literacy in many ways.  Thank you for all you do at home to encourage reading skills, this foundation enables your child to enjoy a life time of learning.

Monday afternoon, our class earned a 'Bear Party'!  We'll be having a special snack and relaxing with a movie at the end of the day.

In Bible this week we'll learn more about how Jesus cares for the people who are on the fringe of society in the story of Zacchaeus.  On Tuesday, our Bethlehem Buddies will be here to teach about Lazarus and how Jesus could raise the dead.

Our focus in literacy this week is comparing and contrasting stories, characters and settings.  Students will write about their opinions as they compare two anchor texts. Our new sight words are: would, could, are. The weekly reader is 'Val's Top'. In phonics, we'll be learning about the digraph 'sh' and practicing counting syllables in words.

We'll finish up Module 13 in math and take a test on our learning.  Students are practicing finding multiple ways to add groups to make numbers 6-10.  We often switch the side the equals sign goes so students understand equivalent equations can be reversed.

In social studies, we'll review what we've learned about economics and state geography, then take a quiz. Next up is preparing for our big Living Things science unit!

Students will practice place value and number identification in tech lab.

In music, we'll listen and respond to the song, "When the Saints Go Marching In".

Our art project this week will give students a chance to be illustrators for a book cover.

Friday, is our Read-In and we can dress in our PJ's.  Students will enjoy several surprises throughout the day from reading and writing in our own blanket forts to a word scavenger hunt in the gym.

I'm looking forward to a fun week of learning, more Spring weather and the joy of being with children!
