Hello Spring

It's so nice to see the Spring sunshine again! Spring is a time of new life and in Kindergarten that means the study of living things.  Our classroom is full of life these days: plants growing, mice playing, tadpoles changing and Bess beetles decomposing bark. We introduced our beautiful (yes, I like insects) beetles last week.  This week we will learn about their anatomy and how they benefit the forests by being decomposers.  We will witness their skills by seeing a tank of bark become soil in just a few weeks. Our pumpkin seeds have germinated and are pushing up toward the sun. Each week we'll be making observations and noting where our plants are in their life cycle. Many thanks to Mattox for sharing frog egg sacks and tadpoles with us!  We can't wait to see them grow and change!

It will be a treat to have our Bethlehem Buddies in for a Bible story on Tuesday. We'll learn about the coming of the Holy Spirit after Jesus ascended to heaven. Our class is busy practicing for our chapel play for next month.

In reading we will practice the new sight words: many, day, down. Our new reader is 'Spin the Top'. In phonics we'll review digraphs. We are studying an informational book about patterns in nature. Students will write to demonstrate comprehension. Mother's Day is fast approaching and we will begin some special writing to tell our mom's how much they mean to us.

This week in math, we'll finish our short module on position words and move into a new module where 2D and 3D shapes are compared.

In tech lab, we'll support our reading and math skills with fun games.

In music we begin a new lesson with echo singing and will learn a song about a sailor going to sea.

Branches of spring blossoms will be our art project on Friday. Students will use mixed media to create a beautiful spring tree.

We've been earning lots of bears with great classroom behavior, so it's looking like we'll have a Bear Party sometime this week!

Our class is really rolling along and we are so proud them.  We see first graders emerging.
