Finishing The Second Trimester

It's hard to believe our year in Kindergarten is 2/3 over!  This week as we transition into our third trimester we see a class that is looking more and more like first grade.  We are so proud of how capable and independent each student has become. Watch for report cards coming home on Friday!

What are learning this week?

In Bible we will focus on starting to learn our new verse for March and this week, we begin the story of the Good Samaritan.  I love this Bible story and know our students will understand how to apply it's lessons to their own life.

We will focus on long 'u' words in reading, reviewing long vowel rules and listening for the long 'u' sound in words. Students will learn about syllables in words and count syllables. Our new sights words are: get, there, said.  We'll begin writing dialog, using the word 'said'. The new weekly reader is: Max.  Completed pink reading logs are due for a prize.  In literacy, we're studying the text, 'The Tiny Seed' and will continue writing to show comprehension and sharing opinions.

Students will practice skills in the technology lab playing games about long 'u' words and solving math problems.

This week in math, we finish up a module on adding and subtraction to 10 from word problems.  Students are working on careful listening, understanding when to plus or minus, drawing careful groups, careful counting and writing accurate equations.

We'll be composing little songs using the concept of  pitch in music and playing boomwhackers.

In science, we'll wrap up our unit on forces and motion.  Students will complete their science notebooks and take a quiz on all we've learned.

We're hoping for some more spring sunshine during our recess times, but it's March, so be ready for anything!

Mrs. Luoma
