In science, our class is learning what a system is and how to build one. A system is a group of related parts that work together. This month our Show and Tell theme is to bring in a system. I'm looking forward to seeing how our student's apply and share their knowledge in creative ways.
Wellness week goes through Wednesday. On Monday, our class will hear a special presentation on wellness in the morning. We'll talk about how we can take better care of ourselves physically, mentally and spiritually. I hope you've been trying some of the great ideas that came home in your wellness packet last week and your family is developing new healthy habits.
This week in Bible we will finish up the story of how Jesus taught his disciples that children were important. We'll discuss why Jesus wanted everyone to have faith like a child.
We will get back to learning more sight words this week: was, want, of. Our reader is 'Jen and Will'. Students will be focusing on long 'o' words in phonics. We will practice reading and writing them. We're at the end of our unit in reading and will complete a writing assessment where we write a good question and an answer sentence based on an informational text.
It will be fun to begin a new math module! Students will be adding and subtracting larger numbers based on word problems by drawing pictures and solving number sentences.
Students will sing using percussion instruments to keep the beat. We'll move on to understand the meaning of pitch in music.
In science, students will design a system using a slide and a swing. It will be exciting to see how we adjust and refine our building to accomplish a task.
While in the tech lab, students will play games and read using long 'o' words. We will practice beginning keyboarding with a fun game.
Friday is Grand-Friends Day at BLS! We can't have crowds into our building yet, but we will focus on honoring our Grandparents. Students will see a special chapel from 4th grade and make special cards to send our Grandparents some love.
Blessings on the week ahead!
Mrs. Luoma
