A new trimester is before us and our class is getting closer and closer to first grade. There are many new changes coming this week. Information was emailed on Friday about the new health guidelines for our school. The biggest change is face masks will now be optional in our building. We also will begin sitting and grouping students closer in the classroom and sanctuary. Parents will once again be welcome in the building to walk their students in, to join in worship on chapel days and for special events. We are excited to see how these changes enhance learning and community at BLS.
We will add a behavior clip chart to our class to practice good behavior management and communication. Watch for a letter coming home on Monday to explain the system and realistic goals. Check folders daily to see how your child's day was at school.
This week in Kindergarten we will finish up learning about the parable of the Good Samaritan and we'll go on to understand a big part of Jesus' ministry was healing anyone who came to Him in faith.
In reading, our new sight words are; say, this, then. Our new reader is: 'Fun for Jud'. We'll finish up our long vowel study with a focus on long 'e' words. Students are learning to count syllables in words. In our study of 'The Tiny Seed', students will write to demonstrate comprehension. At story time, we are identifying events and details from a text.
We will finish up our module on addition and subtraction to 10 in math, then move on to solving for groups as we deepen our understanding in word problems.
This week we'll focus on goods and services produced in Washington State as we move back into social studies. Students will make maps of our state and learn where different goods are made or grown.
In music, we'll learn a new song and practice singing and keeping a beat.
We'll have a playful art lesson on the American artist, Keith Haring. Students will practice the 'Haring' style using markers and lots of bright colors.
Our time in tech lab will support reading skills and keyboarding this week.
It's the start of a lot of good things...let's move ahead with confidence!
Mrs. Luoma
