We will begin our week on a Tuesday, due to President's Day. On Wednesday, every family will receive a packet of information on how to participate in Wellness Week at BLS. This will hopefully be a week where everyone can slow down a bit and try some new activities to help themselves get healthier physically, mentally and spiritually.
We'll be welcoming our Bethlehem Buddies in to teach us about the parable of the sower and the soils at the beginning of the week. Then we'll continue learning more about how Jesus helped and related to people in His ministry on earth.
In math, we'll finish our module on comparing groups and numbers to 10 in multiple ways. There'll be a test on Friday where we can show how well we can follow instructions and count.
Students will focus on long 'i' words this week in phonics. We will read and informational books and note how books can teach the reader how to perform a task. The reader, 'Ted and the Pet' goes home for reading practice. No new sight words this week, we'll be practicing some of the ones that many people miss in class. Students will write a description of their 8th grade reading buddy.
We will have a Social Studies lesson on American heroes and presidents. Students will learn how our country honors people who serve others.
In Science, we'll review forces and record observations about our tops. Next, we'll put several aspects of our learning together to design and build a system that performs a task.
Picasso is the artist in our spotlight for a special project on Friday. Students will learn about his life, styles and then create a portrait in the Picasso technique.
We'll begin a music lesson on pitch and practice echo singing.
In tech lab we'll support our learning of long vowel rules in our reading and spelling as we play interactive games.
We're hoping for a well, calm, smooth, productive week enjoying each day learning with your kids.
Mrs. Luoma
