Snow-No Snow

We've seen some of the best and worst winter weather this past week: sun, cold, wind, snow, ice and rain.  It's been a great illustration of how the weather can change rapidly and be severe.  Each day we've reminded our students about what we have learned about weather this year and they are making great connections to our personal, real life events.  We lost a little time with a late start and a snow day, but this week, we'll be back on tract with a regular schedule...I hope!

We will finish the story of the Magi and begin learning about the life of Jesus as a boy in Bible.  Students will see how God placed Jesus in a loving family who did their best to understand and care for him.

In reading we will focus on short e and i words. Students are gaining confidence segmenting, reading and spelling words. Our new sight words are: do, for, or.  Our reader going home is 'A Cap for Tom'.  In writing we will practice writing our first and last names.  Students will learn more about weather predictions and then write about the weather, making a prediction for the next day.

We will focus on writing numbers 8, 9 and 10 in math and careful counting of object groups.  Students will take a test on module 7.

In social studies, we will apply our learning about goods and services.  Next we will focus on understanding Martin Luther King Jr and why we celebrate his contributions in history.

In tech lab, students will continue practice of short vowel words and enjoy reading interactive books.

Music class is back on after being canceled last week.  We'll be performing songs using the concepts of loud, soft and silence.  Next, we'll listen to a master piece and respond with an illustration.

We're making snowman snow globes to decorate our door for winter.  Note the colorful snowflakes in our classroom window now!

I don't know how wintery our week will be, but everyday will be fun with this group.
