It's a new year and we have many new things to learn in Kindergarten. As students return to class, they'll have a new seating arrangement so they can continue to make new friends. We will welcome three little class pets to our classroom community. This will give us new opportunities to learn about living things, and how to care for them. Our new pets have their own mailbox. Students will get to send and receive notes from their new friends.
In Bible this week, we'll finish the story of the visiting Magi and learn how God protected Jesus and his family from danger. Our new Bible verse will help us to understand how God knew us before we were born and created us according to a perfect plan.
Students will work more on their unit on short vowel sounds. We'll review short 'a' and then practice reading and writing short 'e' word. Our new reader is: 'For Rob' and new sights words are: you, got, will. We will write about the new year and goals we have. Our class will review end marks used in good sentence structure and practice writing question marks. Students will study an informational text about the weather. At story time, we'll identify the main topic in a book and key details. We'll begin to categorize all the books we study into the genres of informational/expository and narrative/fictional.
We get to start a new module in math on numbers 6-10. Students will learn how to write numbers correctly and practice counting groups in multiple formations.
In music class we'll practice activities where loud and soft sounds are contrasted with silences. We'll listen and evaluate a classical piece, noting how the title describes the pitch and beat of the song.
While in the tech lab, we'll practice vowel sounds in simple words and read books to help us practice specific vowels.
Our art project is about perspective and design. Students will use paper, oil pastels and glue to create interesting snowmen.
We will review the roles of consumers and producers in social studies and move on to understand and categorize goods and services. Students will illustrate a good and a service they could produce.
It will be good to be back in the classroom with all our friends. We love our breaks, but we miss being together. I'm looking forward to returning to learning and growing as a class.
