Half Way to First Grade!

Yes, Kindergarten is half over and we see our class transforming into first graders each week. Everyone is gaining confidence in reading and writing.  Students are eager to learn in the classroom together each day.  It's looking good!

With a full week ahead of us, we'll be making lots of progress in all our subject areas.  In Bible we will learn more about how Jesus called His disciples and how anyone can be a follower of Jesus.  Our new verse is all about how to love God deeply.

In reading we'll finish up covering short vowel sounds and plays several games to help us review. We'll finish us our study of the anchor text 'Saturdays y Domingos'.  Students will write a narrative story about three things they'd like to do with a friend.  New sight words are: but, who, that.  Our new reader is 'My Words'.

This week in math students will practice counting to 100 by 1's and 10's.  We'll put numbers in order and count by counting on from any given number.  Our focus will be on understanding patterns and place value in the 100's chart.

Last week we built slides in science, this week we'll measure the distance a ball rolls down our slide.  Then we'll move on to building a model swing and start using the words 'push' and 'pull' as we describe forces.  The kids love to build and explore forces!

At tech lab we'll practice counting skills with some fun games. It's great to be able to use technology as a way to practice practical skills.

In music, we'll explore the concept of beat both loud and soft as we compose our own pieces of music.

Our art project will be to design an animal made of hearts on our Valentine bags.

We're looking forward to a good week and moving into February with a smile.
