We've been working on counting skills to 100 to get ready for Day 100 next week. Our students think 100 is a BIG number, but we're finding it's not so hard to get there if you take it by groups of 10.
This week at Bible time we are listing 10 new blessings each day, then we'll compile our list to showcase how easy it is to be thankful for God's blessings. When we began our list, everyone thought it would be hard to think of 100 blessings. Now we are seeing it is actually very easy, because there are SO many things that bless our lives. We'll also learn more about who and how Jesus called his first disciples as we study the word.
In math we'll begin a new module on comparing groups and numbers, understanding greater, lesser and equal. We'll get to make collections this week of 100 objects with our 8th grade reading buddies.
Our new sight words are rhyming words: no, so, go. Our new reader is 'How Many?'. We'll move from short vowel sounds to understanding long vowels. Students will learn to follow the vowel pattern clues in a word to understand if the first vowel will be short or long. We'll write a long 'a' word family in our writing journals. Students will begin studying a new expository text on how music is made. We will learn new vocabulary and write to show comprehension. Students will focus on practicing careful writing of their first and last names.
In science we'll be setting up dominos and using a force to knock them down. Students will learn more about forces that push or pull. We will learn about gravity and friction as we study our system.
At tech lab we'll practice counting skills and in art we'll be learning about primary and secondary colors by mixing colors to make some friendly birds on a branch.
In music, we'll listen to 'The Entertainer' and give our opinions about the music and what instruments are involved.
We'll have lots to be thankful for this week, I hope you, too have many blessing to count.
Mrs. Luoma
