This Friday your child will bring home their first report card. I look at these documents as a way to communicate how we're doing as a team to help your child learn and grow. Students, teachers and parents are all part of the team. Each person has a part in education. I love to communicate all the ways your child has grown and express how we can support each other during the school year. Thank you for being an active partner in your child's education. Miss Martin and I are looking forward to meeting with each of you.
Kindergarten as a glance this week....
In Bible we will see God's people make it into the Promised Land with yet another miracle. We will discuss reasons to be thankful in our own lives.
We finish our walk through the alphabet this week with letter Jj and our final phonics quiz on Tuesday over letters: Tt, Ii, Jj. New sight words: he, she, (review on we). Our class will be wrapping up the trimester with a review on writing upper and lowercase letters, reading sight words. Next we will spend a mini unit on identifying beginning and ending sounds in words. We will write about our favorite thing to eat and give a reason why we like it. At story time, we'll focus on opinions and identifying details in the text.
This week our class will get some extra addition and subtraction practice in, using basic skills. We noted some weaknesses on the last quiz, so we're circling back to strengthen our foundation in this important area.
Students will build their final shade structure designs in science. We'll combine economics to provide a wage for those students who complete a job. Extra pennies can buy extra building materials at our Lil Lowe's store. Later in the week, students will work in collaborative groups to review important concepts on the weather, then we'll have a fun oral quiz on our learning.
In tech lab we'll practice letter names, sounds and rhyming words. We don't have an art lesson this week due to our half day on Friday, but students will complete and learn what the mystery painting is that they began last week.
Music time is all about practicing for our Christmas program.
We're so proud of all the progress our class has made this trimester AND so excited for all the learning to come.
Mrs. Luoma
