Appreciating Veterans

This week we'll celebrate Veteran's Day on Thursday with a day off from school.  On Wednesday, our students will learn more about Veteran's Day at our Veteran's Day chapel.  It will be live streamed, so I hope all our families can watch. In the morning, BLS students will be able to view several military vehicles in the back parking lot and talk to the veterans who own them. Our class will bring home a special thank you and a flag to give to a veteran.

As we study the Bible this week we'll follow Moses to the edge of the Promised Land and then see how God brought His people to a better place.

We will focus on letters Ii and Tt in reading.  Our new sight words are: we, they, my.  As we read together, students are working on segmenting and blending sounds. At story time we are reviewing opinions and how to give a reason for our opinions.  We extend this skill into our Show and Tell time.  We will write about our flag for our wall gallery in honor of Veteran's Day.

Students will continue practicing addition and subtraction as they listen to word problems.  We practice listening for key words, make sketches and write equations.  On Friday we'll finish this section with a test.

In tech lab we are practicing math skills and will try our hand at computer drawing.

We will finish up our unit on jobs in social studies.  Students will 'work' for a wage and then use their pennies to buy building materials for designing a new shade structure in science.  We're excited to test our designs and learn what materials insulate best.

Our class is having fun learning our songs for the Christmas program.  This week, we'll assign groups to learn parts of scripture for the performance.

In art, we'll be painting with our fingers and using tape to create tree trunks for a beautiful fall setting.

Let's be thankful for fall and for all the people who sacrifice to keep our country safe.
