We begin a new month this week where we will focus on being thankful for all God has done and all He has given us. Students will move into a new seating arrangement this week to make new friends. We will note the change in the season at recess this week...time for warmer coats, hats and gloves!
I'll be assessing students one on one in the next couple of weeks as we prepare to show their progress on our first report cards.
In Bible we will finish up the story of Moses as he leads his people through the desert. Then we will take a look into the Promised Land. Our class will discuss God's provision and His miracles. Check out the new Bible verse for this month and help your child keep God's word in their hearts.
In reading we will cover letters Ss and Aa. Phonics quiz on Thursday over letters: Gg, Ss, Aa. New sight words are: is, have, like. We'll be using many of these words to write about our opinions. At story time we will review many of the concepts taught earlier in the trimester: parts of a book, character, setting, author, illustrator and opinion.
Students will get lots of practice listening and writing correct addition and subtraction sentences in math. We'll act out problems, sketch and write numbers to show our learning.
This week in music everyone will begin working on songs for our K-8 Christmas program. Mrs. Picker will lead a K-2 practice each Wednesday.
In social studies we'll move ahead into learning more in depth about jobs and community helpers.
This week in science students will review severe weather and learn what types of severe weather we might have here. We'll finish up adding temperature data to our graph showing how the sun warms the earth. Students will learn about engineering and design as they create their own sun blocking structures.
In art we'll learn about Native Americans art forms. Students will design and paint their own teepees.
I'm looking forward to a good full week of learning and fun. I'm thankful for each one of you and your kids.
Mrs. Luoma
