Making Goals

It's been SO exciting to see so many Fall Fest goals met by our school.  Our class is doing great bringing in donations, thank you for helping us make BLS a better place and investing in the future of learning.  Our next big goal is to purchase new musical instruments for all the classes to use with our music curriculum.  Your kids will love to use instruments as they learn about music. Remember families can continue to bring in donations until October 15th!

Fall Fest projects are just one type of goal.  In our class, we are making and meeting new goals every week.  Learning goals, social goals, behavior goals...it's exciting to see our students grow with pride as they master new skills.

This week in Bible we will finish the story of The Fall and how sin entered the world.  Then and now, sin is a big problem and the source of pain in our lives.  Our hope is in the forgiveness of Jesus now and tomorrow.  Next, we will study the story of Joseph and his brothers. This is a great opportunity to discuss family dynamics and forgiveness. Start practicing our Bible verse for this month; just check the page on this blog for details.

In writing, we'll keep moving through the alphabet, taking on letters Vv, Ww and Xx this week after phonics and writing quiz over letters Hh, Kk, Ll, Uu.  We will focus on writing our first and last names correctly, using upper case letter only to start names. Students will write about an owl for our wall display.  We will learn a chant to help us remember good sentence structure.

Students will review the sounds of the last letters we have covered and move into this week's letters.  We are listening to identify beginning sounds in words, rhyming words and ending sounds in words.  At story time our focus will include reviews of what the author and illustrator do in a book, characters and setting and we'll begin recalling story sequence.

In math, we are comparing groups and numbers from 0-5, understanding what greater, less and equal mean.

Students will produce echo rhythms and sing songs keeping rhythm with their hands in music.

We'll review classroom rules in social studies and update our poster.  In science, we will learn about the ways we measure the weather: temperature, precipitation and wind speed.  We'll make our own wind socks to use at home.  Students will learn about the  use of satellites as a way to map and predict weather patterns from space.

Students will practice matching upper and lower case letters in tech lab using a fun game.  And at library, we'll check out new books for the second time.

Our art project of the week will highlight the technique of pointillism.  Students will create beautiful fall trees using paint.

It will be a full and fun week of fall in Kindergarten.  Ask your child about their learning at home!
