Hello Fall!

The seasons are changing and we are rolling right into the fall!  Last Thursday, everyone got excited for our yearly BLS fundraiser, Fall Fest.  There are lots of fun prizes for students and classes to earn.  As we make our goals, there are many fun all-school rewards.  Besides the fun, this is a chance to make our school a better places by gathering donations for items not covered by student tuition.  This year if we make all our goals, we'll add a new classroom set of Chromebooks on a cart for multiple classes to utilize and every class will be outfitted with new desks.  I hope you participate, enjoy the festivities and see the big benefit to our school.

In Bible this week, we begin to learn about how sin entered the world through the choices Adam and Eve made in the garden.  It's a serious story with hard consequences, BUT God provides a way to be cleansed from sin through Jesus!  We are also very excited to invite a special group of Bethlehem Lutheran Church members in on Tuesday to teach the Bible story to small groups of Kindergarten students and then pray for them.  This is the ministry of Bethlehem Buddies at work to build relationships and encourage students to grow in faith.

In reading, we will practice handwriting skills and phonics on letters Hh, Kk, Ll, Uu.  Students will write about an owl and draw a setting.  We are practicing rhyming words at story time.  This week we'll also learn what an author and illustrator do.

Students will finish up Module 2 in math on counting and writing numbers 0-5, we'll have a test on Thursday.  Friday, we'll start Module 3 where we compare groups 0-5 and identify groups that are greater or less.

In science, we review the water cycle and dive into the study of weather.  This week, we'll observe and learn about cloud types.  Students will learn how to report the weather and measure temperature, wind speed and precipitation.  Watch for a colorful wind sock to come home on Thursday!

Our first trip to the BLS library was delayed last week.  God willing (and with enough volunteers) we'll be checking out our first books this week.

In technology lab students will continue to grow in using a mouse correctly as we play a game about dressing for the weather.

This week in art our class will explore the abstract style of Wassily Kandinsky.  We will use oil pastels to make a collaborative piece of art with concentric circles.

We also get to meet with our 8th grade reading buddies on Friday morning.  We're still getting comfortable with our new friends.  Together we'll make a special cloud and rainbow as the 8th graders interview their Kindergarten friends.

This is a great class, I love coming to school every day!
