This week our class will enjoy some hard-earned rewards! Everyone has done a wonderful job of bringing in Fall Fest donations. On Tuesday, Mr. Gruen will serve us up ice cream for our very own party, it is also the day where Kindergarten students can celebrate their Free Dress day. On Wednesday, we'll celebrate working together as a class with a popcorn party and a little movie at the end of the day. This means our class earned all their 'bear tokens' by following directions as a group. We earn bears whenever the entire class works well as a group; for coming to the carpet correctly, having good lines, focus during writing and having everyone participate well during movement breaks. It takes a while to earn them all, so it is well worth celebrating.
As we study God's Word this week, we'll learn more about the trials Joseph went through and how God protected him through all the hard times. We'll focus our prayers on asking God to help us love and forgive family members.
In reading we will study letter Yy and have a phonic/handwriting quiz over letters Vv, Ww, Xx and Yy. We'll move on to practice the letter Zz in our march through the alphabet. Students will write about being kind for our writing wall. This week we begin learning sight words! Each week students will learn a strategy to help them remember the words. We'll write and practice sight words in class and send home flashcards so you can help your child memorize the words each week to prepare for the quizzes on Fridays. At story time we are reviewing the beginning, middle and end of a text plus reviewing vocabulary words.
We will finish up our chapter on comparing groups to 5. Next we will learn to categorize and classify shapes and groups in Module 4. Students will take home their workbooks on Modules 1-3 and you'll be able to see their daily work and how our lessons are set up.
In science we are taking temperatures outside in the sun and shade to determine if and how much the sun warms the earth. We will review tools used to forecast the weather. Next we will begin our study on severe weather forms.
Students will start learning about the jobs people have in our school building and the community in our social studies unit.
We are having lots of fun in music as we bring instruments out to play a beat with the song we've been studying, 'Tom Farmer'. Students are learning to listen closely and repeat rhythms as we sing.
In art, we will explore color and shape by creating beautiful 'Cities at Night' with paper.
Friday, we'll be excited for Fall Fest on Saturday morning at Howard Amon Park in Richland. I hope you all can come!
Mrs. Luoma
