We love our Moms and Dads

One thing we see and hear over and over throughout the year is how much each student loves their parents.  As we ready our students for celebrating Mother's Day, we often talk about how God gave each one of us just the right Mom and Dad and family.  Our families look different, but God sets the course for your child to have just what they need.  May God bless you and give you wisdom as you love your precious children.

In our study of the Bible we'll be focusing on the Lord's Prayer for a couple weeks.  Many of our students can recite the prayer, but few understand the meaning of the language used.  We break the prayer up into smaller chunks and discuss what each part means.  Check out the new Bible verse for May/June and start helping your child to memorize it!

Students will focus on more letter blends in reading, identifying blend sounds in words and writing words with blends.  No new sight words this week, review past words!  We will write about our Moms and do some scientific writing about our Bess Beetles.  We are studying a book about observing spirals in nature.  Students will explore new vocabulary and answer comprehension questions with complete sentences.

We're close to the finish of our chapter on addition in math.  This week students will continue using good reading skills to solve word problems and work on rapid recall of addition facts to 5.  Our students who love speed will enjoy making a race out of solving addition problems.

It's a big week in our science unit, Living Things.  All our pumpkin seeds have germinated and are growing quickly.  Students will make scientific observation and record measurements of their plants.  We will learn more about the plant life cycle.  Students make predictions about the outcome of seedlings that try to grow without water and light.  Next, we will study more about our wonderful Bess Beetles!  This week students will learn more about Bess Beetle habitats, then we will make predictions about their preferences.  The fun part will be watching our beetles show us their preferences inside our cool two chamber test dishes.

The big finish to our week will be our Mother's Day picnic at the end of the day on Thursday.  Our class is working hard to help with all the details.  Each student is very excited to have a special time with their Mom.

This is a shorter week, with students off from school on Friday, but it will be full of discovery. learning and love.
