How does Jesus want us to pray? What do we pray about? All these questions are answered in the Lord's prayer. This week our class will finish up their study of the meaning behind the words in the Lord's prayer. We hope it will serve as an example of how and what to pray about for their whole life. We know Jesus approves!
Reading and writing skills will cover word endings this week. Students will learn how to read and write the endings: s, ed and ing. We will identify base words. Our new sight words are: many, day, down. Students will write an expository piece based on a text we've been studying on spiral shapes in nature.
In math we will finish up our big chapter on addition with a test on Tuesday. Next up is subtraction!
We will do our final observation and measurements on our pumpkin plants. We need to send them home this week for replanting. Meanwhile, the class will study more of the pumpkin life cycle. Each week we will take a look at the results of our test plants that are trying to grow without sun and water. On Wednesday we'll watch our Bess beetles show us their preferences in food choices. Students will make predictions and record results.
In social studies, we will begin a unit on Flags and other symbols. Students will study the significance and meaning behind many of our country's symbols.
Students will work in the media of clay in art, making a model of a Bess beetle. We will show the main parts of the anatomy: head, thorax and abdomen.
In technology lab, student will work on reading skills by playing interactive reading games.
We are moving forward full speed toward first grade. I am so proud of this class!
