Last week we planted seeds to observe a plant life cycle. This week we'll add insects! Our Bess Beetles are here and happily eating damp bark in their little tank. Students will observe insect anatomy this week. Once you get to know Bess beetles you will love them; they look scary, but are actually gentle and docile creatures. Science is taking the lead in several of our afternoons right now, as living things don't wait for a schedule to grow. When our seeds start germinating, we'll make observations a priority to make the most of understanding the plant life cycle.
In Bible this week we will finish up the story of the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. We will explain and answer questions about the Trinity and the part the Holy Spirit plays in our triune God.
Everyday we add challenges to our understanding of addition in math. This week we'll practice adding carefully using larger numbers, we'll cover vertical addition and begin solving addition word problems. Students will see how reading skills also help them in math.
In reading we'll practice identifying and writing words with consonant blends. Our new sight words are: from, now, how. Students will write to show their comprehension and good sentence structure as we study our new anchor text on plant patterns. Our class will begin some special writings about their moms to assemble into a booklet.
In art we'll be making a special Mother's Day gift for our moms (it's a secret). Likewise, students will be writing and creating several items to make our Mother's Day Picnic special.
In technology lab our class will practice addition skills while playing a fun, learning game.
I'm looking forward to a great week of learning and fun,
Mrs. Luoma
